Scott has been in the forefront of using carbon fibre in the production of their bikes in the last few years. In 2005, Scott came out with the world lightest production racing hardtail, the carbon Scale Limited, weighing at 970grams. A year later, they impressed the All-Mountain segment with their Ransom series. With a carbon frame that boast 6.5 inches of rear travel, it is capable of eating boulders for lunch and yet still be able to pedal up the hills.

For next year, Scott is extending their carbon technology into a new frontier. The new full suspension frame is super light weight, built for Crosscounty, Marathon and Trail. The brand new SCOTT SPARK is the first bike produced with IMP (integrated moulding process) technology! At a featherlight 1550 grams (3.41 lbs) for the frame and 240 grams (0.53 lbs) for the new NUDE rear shock, it claims to hold the world record in light weight. But that is not all; the Spark will inherit the tri-settings remote adjustable rear shock feature from Genius and Ransom, to be the only bike other than the two to have such feature.

SCOTT has patented a new carbon manufacturing process called IMP (integrated moulding process). The front triangle is produced in this new technology and allows a wrinkle free and light weight production. In combination with the use of the brand new and exclusive HMX fibre, the frame is set to be the lightest full suspension frame around. A hardtail frame at 1.8 lbs is hardly considered overweight, let alone a full suspension frame with full 110mm of travel. Scott still uses HMF (high modular fibres) but in the areas where increased tension strength is required, the new HMX fibre finds its place to increase strength and reduce weight at the same time.

The frame features carbon dropouts, carbon cable stoppers and has been redefined completely to achieve the best ratio of stiffness and weight.

The SCOTT NUDE rear shock has been produced in co-operation with DT Swiss. The shock weighs in at incredibly lightweight 240 grams (0.53 lbs) only and offers 3 settings which can be activated with the brand new SCOTT TRACLOC lever featuring a rapid-fire function for quick change of the different modes: The AllTravel mode offers 110 mm of active travel while the TractionMode activates around 70 mm of travel for climbs and fast single trail riding while the LockOut completely locks the shock for sprinting and climbing on asphalt.

The Spark is the weapon of choice for Thomas Frischknecht in his fight for the third title of marathon world champion in Oisans (France) on 13 August 2006.
